JOKES

29 01 2008

A woman was walking down the street when she was accosted by a particularly dirty & shabby-looking homeless woman who asked her for a couple of dollars for dinner. The woman took out her bill fold, extracted ten dollars and asked, “If I give you this money, will you buy some wine with it instead of dinner?”“No,” I had to stop drinking years ago, the homeless woman replied.
“Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?” the woman asked
“No I don’t waste time shopping,” the homeless woman said. “I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.”
“Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?” the woman asked.

“Are you NUTS!” replied the homeless woman. “I haven’t had my hair done in 20 years!”
“Well,” said the woman, “I’m not going to give you the money. “Instead, I’m going to take you out for dinner with my hubby & myself tonight.”
The homeless Woman was astounded. “Won’t your hubby be furious with you for doing that? I know I’m dirty, & I probably smell pretty disgusting.”The woman replied, “That’s okay. It’s important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, & wine.”

Trip to Miri – photolog 11 – The real Crocodile Farm

27 01 2008

This is Maureen, and her husband – great friends of ours.  They took all of us for some famous prawn mee – it really looked great, and I took some pics of the big enormous prawns.  A pity I had no chance to try it cos I’m allergic to prawns :(

25-allan-i-maureen-and-husband.jpg

After the breakfast, we went to the local market (which I will blog about next) where we met Ah Hui’s brother.  Next was Canada Hill and after that, it was the REAL crocodile farm (we’d already seen the one in Ah Hui’s house, lol) – only it was not just a crocodile farm – they also had snakes, geese, monkeys, snakes, rabbits, cassowary (according to the guiness book of records, it is the most dangerous bird on earth) and of course, plenty of crocodiles – some were reared for consumption.

Personally I felt the animals were all better behaved than our Allan & Friends’ group on that day…… you should have seen them making  a ruckus, annoying the crocodiles and confusing the monkeys!

Trip to Miri – photolog 10 – Canada Hill

27 01 2008

Ah Hui’s brother graciously tok the day off to take us around.  One of the places we visited was Canada Hill.

You can see almost the whole of Miri city and its surrounding area from Canada Hill. This is where Miri’s (and Malaysia’s) first oil well also called the Grand Old Lady of Miri and is now a Historical Monument.  There is also a museum on the hill.

Tried using Panorama mode on my trusty hand phone, but still not too sure how to use it – nvm la, I think this is acceptable :)

39-market-2.jpg

Buying hill rice at the market

40-market-3.jpg

We bought this mango like fruit but was not allowed to bring it on board – too fragrant – the ground staff could smell it even though it was packed in newspapers in a sealed box! Sigh – so how, eat la at the airport!

41-market-4.jpg

Wild durians – Allan HAD to try one from every stall

54-iban-bbq-3.jpg

Later we went to the Iban BBQ market – many stalls selling all kinds of BBQ meat

53-iban-bbq.jpg

The stuff include things like pig’s head, ears, etc………..

Trip to Miri – photolog 8 – Ah Hui’s mini zoo

26 01 2008

We’ve heard for years, about Ah Hui’s crocodile – yes…. we all have dogs and cats for pets but Ah Hui’s father rears crocodiles!!!! We were all excited and full of anticipation as we headed for this home.  When we arrived, we found that it was not just a crocodile but also ………….

31-ah-huis-owl.jpg

an owl………. and 3 dogs , but lets not even waste time with the dogs!

32-newspaper-report.jpg

Ah Hui’s dad was involved with catching this big, humongous crocodile

33-newspaper-report-1.jpg

story is that the villages wanted to catch and kill this croc cos it had eaten a boy, but when they cut up the croc, they found not just one, but two children inside, already all decomposed – so this was a man-eating croc

34-crocodile-head-1.jpg

Ah Hui’s dad brought back the head

35-crocodile-head-2.jpg

We went to the crocodile farm later and saw some crocodile heads there, but none were as big as this one!

36-crocodile-head-3.jpg

See how easily it can swallow a human alive?

25 01 2008

After the water fall trip, we went back to Miri town for some food and then rushed to the beach to view the sunset.

All pictures taken with my Nokia handphone

Trip to Miri – photolog 5 – Batu Niah town and Latak waterfall

22 01 2008

(All pics taken with my Nokia 6120 mobile phone)

1-local-drink.jpg

They have very creative ways of preparing their beverages – like using this green herb with their sugar to add to their soya bean.

2-water-fish.jpg

“Water Fish”, actually a terrapin la – yeap, the locals sell this openly in the markets for boiling soup

3-baby.jpg

On the way out of Batu Niah to Miri, we stopped at this stall owned by an Iban and her family to buy wild durian.  This little girl was just sitting there happily and so we played a while with her.

4-latak-waterfall-sign.jpg

Latak Waterfall, quite a good place to visit

5-water-fall-sign.jpg

After spending a full day at the Niah caves, none of us wanted to walk to the farthest waterfall – we were contented with Latak waterfall :)

6-allan-on-the-way-to-waterfall.jpg

Our youth camp tshirt stands out amidst the jungle trees!

7-strange-markings-in-water.jpg

We were wondering what these holes in the river bed were – but there was no one to answer us

8-water-fall-1.jpg

Finally reached the place. It was the dry season and so the waterfall was not in its full glory.  Nevertheless, it was a good swim because there was a huge pool at the base of the waterfall.  Be careful here – with 6 steps, we were in really deep waters and in 10 steps, the pool was more than 10 feet deep! It was refreshing as the water was ICE cold

9-waterfall-3.jpg

14-red-tree-4.jpg

On the way out, we noticed this tree – it definitely stood out – the trunk was really red!

11-red-tree.jpg

12-red-tree-2.jpg

Well, this is the name of the tree – I didn’t noticed any other one of its kind around

13-red-tree-3.jpg

It’s really tall as well

10-allan-and-red-tree.jpg

The bark kinds of flakes of in layers and when you peel it off, it leaves a reddish powder residue on your fingers.
