Remembering David Yoong

28 02 2008

(Pictures courtesy of Teo Xianjin)

Some time ago, I wrote about David Yoong here, since then, he has been in and out of the hospital but has also not neglected going to church every Sunday, even when he was hospitalised.  He would take leave from the hospital for 4 hours, go to worship God with us and then go back to the hospital.  A couple of weeks ago, his doctors told him that it was too late for any kind of treatment any more as he was in the last stages of cancer.  They discharged him. Last Sunday he looked frail but still came to worship God with us.  He told Allan that he was in pain and could not talk well.  Shortly after midnight the next day, his housemates  called to ask us to send him to the hospital. He could hardly breathe and was in much pain. Allan sent him to hospital and we prayed that God will take away his suffering.  On Tuesday, some of us visited and assured him that we would take care of things and try to contact his family.  We also assured him that God had prepared a place for him. He is going to a better place. David was called home to be with the Lord this morning.

I’m glad we were given the opportunity to be a very small part of his life.  I’m also extremely encouraged by those who helped him in some way or another, by providing for him and giving him transport.  Most of all, I am encouraged by Beng Hoe, Cat, Choong, Senny and Alvin who did not give up on him.

Memorial service : Friday, 29th March @ 9pm at AGC Chinese Church, 19 Jalan Rasmi 7, Taman Rasmi Jaya.

Funeral at the Cheras Crematorium on Saturday morning at 10am

Here are some great pictures taken by Xianjin at David’s baptism service – they speak for themselves.

Andy and Angie

19 02 2008

Before our new house help arrived, I had to wake up at 5.40 every morning to get Angie and Andy ready for school.  Although it was tiring, the time was well spent, we had precious minutes reading a short Bible verse and praying before they left for school – one morning I decided to take a picture of them with my hand phone before the bus arrived …….. it was not long after a spate of kidnapping cases – in a moment of madness, I thought I should have a picture of them in their uniform in case they are kidnapped on the way back from school…… talk about being grouse and morbid! Ha ha ….. excuse me my moments of unbelievable craziness :) ………… (of course I didn’t tell them why I was taking the pics…. they would have gone “MUM!!!!!”)

On Sunday, 10th Feb, we invited the church members and the youth to visit us – the food was really simple, we ordered some nasi dagang from our neighbour, Faizah but the day went well with people dropping in at different time slots, thus giving us valuable time to really fellowship with each one more intimately

visitor-jawans-son.jpg

Jawan’s son

Jawan and family gave us a surprise visit – he was sent here to work as a lot of the engineers in West Malaysia had gone on leave. So who’s Jawan? Well in the mid 80’s right till the early 90’s we spent some time with a bunch of East Malaysian students who were sent to KL on scholarship.  Jawan is the only one who still keeps in touch with us and we are thrilled to see his wonderful family and how the Lord has blessed Him tremendously.

Of uncles, aunties and cousins

13 02 2008

Although I am 44 this year (Allan is 49, in case you’re wondering), I have cousins who are my children’s age and even younger. That’s because my mum is the eldest of 9 children and most of her brothers married late and had children even later!

We visit with them every chinese new year and here are some pics

CNY 08

12 02 2008

Every Chinese New Year, our children will serve tea to us in the morning of the first day, wish us and then we will give then a blessing and an ang pow. I really like this old chinese culture and we plan to keep it alive in our family.  The chance for parents to bless their children should be grabbed, what with parents scolding their children most of the time:)

Its a time for us to be used as a channel to bestow God’s blessings upon them, not unlike the Jewish custom where the head of the family blesses his children.  In our family, the children also think through what they want to say to us as they serve us tea – I think its one of the most serious moments we ever have with our children every year, and you can be sure that they listen carefully to what we have to say because of it.
