Langkawi Geopark

4geopark

This is the Geo Park and the place to go to if you want to take the cable car.  Incidentally, we discovered a tax free outlet here that sells chocolates at prices that are as competitive as the ones in Kuah – of course different shops have different offers for their chocolates, depending on their stock.  Anyway, its the first  duty free shop that sells chocolates and other stuff on the left as you enter the Geo Park. You won’t miss it, they sell a lot of chocolates.

4geopark3

The GeoPark has buskers like this guy here.

4geopark5

Superman had to take the cable car up to the peak – lost his ability to fly

4geopark6

The view is great……the sea, not the girl

4geopark7

Telaga 7 from the Cable Car (7 wells) – fantastic sight!

4geopark8

Breathtaking view

4geopark11

At the top – air is good too. If you come early, you might encounter misty weather and not be able to see a lot, but if you come late, the queue is terribly long – so I suggest coming early, stick around till the mist clears, make sure you go to the toilet before you buy your tickets though – for the reasons in the 2nd last pic below.

4geopark12

The suspension bridge was closed for repair – really disappointing for us.

OK, the toilet story – All the toilets at the top and at the midway point were closed – apparently for repairs – personally I think they just didn’t want to have to clean it! Such a sad state of affairs. I noticed a few of the tourists were upset about it, including this one here.

This picture has to be small – or else my sister will tell me to do something with my wrinkles again!

Accommodation in Langkawi

30 11 2008

Right, back to the unfinished business of introducing Langkawi to those who have never been there.

Where to stay?

SUPER POSH

2andaman

We went exploring and some of the places we explored were the different hotels and resorts

This is the Andaman, neighbours to the Datai – both super posh and of course more expensive than any of the rest la.  If you have the money, this is a great place to stay – its beautiful with lots of privacy.  It is a bit far off from everything else, but then again, with a place like this, you don’t have to go anywhere and if you have the money to stay here, you’ll have the money to eat here too :)

Swimming pool in paradise

2andaman3

This is a beach nearby, not belonging to the hotels, very private, quiet and beautiful

POSH

2awana

Awana Porto Malai will be the place to stay if you plan to island hop because this is where most of the chartered boats leave from. The water is beautifully calm and clear because its protected but there is no much of a beach here.

2awana2

One other place that’s posh is probably the Berjaya Langkawi Beach Resort.  The pictures are found in my previous post about Langkawi. Berjaya is about 14km to the airport, 20 km to Pantai Cenang and 30km to Kuah Town.

OK OK

4geopark2

This is the Geo Park and there is a hotel here too but we didn’t get a picture of it nor did we walk in to have a look.  No idea of the price too.

ECONOMICAL

2foodabmotel

For the more budget conscious, there are many motels like this one here at Cenang Beach, one of the more happening part of Langkawi – of course to some people, “happening=noisy”, so its really relative.  If you want to shop and look for your own food, this is the place to stay.  Bear in mind that shopping is more expensive here than in Kuah town.

2sandy-beach

Sandy Beach is another place that is cheap to stay – please make sure you ask for beach front cos they have some rooms that are on the other side of the road and not facing the beach – you’ll have to cross the road to get there.  These A huts are cheap, at RM88 or so per hut….and there is air conditioning

2sandy-beach2

We had some food here at Sandy Beach Motel – cheap and ok. Don’t expect anything posh but at these prices, I’m not complaining.

2sandybeach3

We had lots of time to kill before flying off, so we just sat here for some time, enjoying the breeze. This is still Sandy Beach. In case you’re interested, this is also where the Tsunami created some havoc!

2sandybeach4

If you’re wondering, NO, they did not pay me anything to promote them, I guess I just had more time to take pics here and I really enjoyed sitting here:)

There were a few better hotels here in Pantai Cenang, I noticed Pelangi Beach Resort and Casa Del Mar, but we didn’t have time to go in for a look.

London here we come :)

28 11 2008

I really, really need to finish up my series on Langkawi……… after all, this IS supposed to be partly a travel blog BUT

“rancangan ini tergendala sementara untuk pengumuman penting………”

stoppress1

We managed to get cheap AIR ASIA tickets to London *dances around*

The feeling was “WOW!!!!”

There is a story behind it too.  Actually I managed to get return seats for RM499 (that’s BOTH WAYS!!!!),

THEN, there was some technical glitch just after I confirmed the credit card particulars…….

and………

somebody stole my seats from right under my nose!!!!!! I’ll know who it is when I get on board, they took the seats I booked and I had to re-book and took the seats NEXT to them *fumes*

that’s not the end – this time, I couldn’t get the RM499 seats to London, so in the end I paid RM579 to London and RM499 to KL. Sigh, its not really the amount of money, but the fun and novelty of getting the cheapest possible seats to London, you know, the kind where you get to say ….. “YES!”  :p

So when are we travelling?

We’re leaving KL on Sept 1st

and…….

leaving London on

Sept 11th

O__ Allan :)

27 11 2008

My sister says my blog has died……….. sigh, I HAVE been lazy BUT its also because (TM and STREAMYX – pay attention) the internet connection at my place is SOOOOOOO SLOW, its quite tedious to blog – esp when I want to post pictures! And to think that I actually upgraded my streamyx and am paying RM110 now per month – for what???? Lately, I have not even been able to do a simple interbank transfer!!!!!

Ok, so back to finishing my series on Langkawi, but first thing is to post a picture of Allan – he is now officially “lo-fah” literal translation “old flower” which means he is now long sighted (Presbyopia, NOT Hypermetropia – there is a difference, go google it and find out). So he has to peer over his spectacles to read his messages. I took a snap shot of it – just couldn’t resist – SUPERMAN having problem with his eyes, hee hee hee.  He does look old, but we all still love him, the children and I (awwwwww…….).

Joy to the World at Gracehill

9 11 2008

The Haggai Institute Alumni had an informal gathering at Gracehill on the 2nd of November and our children, Andy, Angie and Andrea, together with their friends, Jee Yann, Bridget and Glen gave us an informal and impromptu item. Not bad singing – they only had one practice before this. Oh, and Jee Yann was the one who arranged the parts and taught them how to sing it.
