Right, just what do you do in Langkawi? Well, we did the touristy stuff (sightseeing), the visiting stuff (looked at the different hotels, drove around almost the whole island), the activities stuff (swimming, walking around, cable car-ing), the shopping stuff (chocolates, etc) and now I’m going to talk about the eating stuff.
The first night, we decided to visit Pantai Cenang, the “happening” place for some food – how did we decide on the place? Well, we were really hungry, so we looked at the number of tables (of hungry customers) still waiting for their food, and left a few places because of that. Finally decided on Arabic food which was not really Arabic food – I mean, it didn’t have really authentic Arabic food like the kind you get at TarBush for example – I went, “What? No Chick Peas?”
Ah well, we were just too tired and hungry to go somewhere else, so we stayed and ate. This is a family run business.
Incidentally, the beer IS cheaper than Coke or any other carbonated drink
However, this place does not serve beer. Obviously la
Telaga Arabic restaurant
We needed something else, so we stopped by at Shin Mi Seafood Village on the way back to Berjaya Resort.
Food here is ok, service fast, people friendly, price ok.
The next day we went to the Marina to have some lunch, ended up at our own Dr M’s Bakery, heard the food is good, but actually we were really desperate to get online and retrieve our mail, so we ordered something and sat there for a while to do our mailing. One warning, when you ask for water, they mean mineral water, and that’s from Italy and you pay Italian too!
Allow me to sidetrack a bit to post some pics of the beautiful yacht’s there, including our own Jalur Gemilang.
There are many food outlets here, but we wanted something simple, plain and cheap. There is mamak restaurant just behind this row of shops and Allan was very happy with his Nasi there.
NICE!!!
The Jalur Gemilang is really quite small, which really made me respect the man (Datuk Azhar Mansur) so much more. Couldn’t have been easy sailing this baby alone.
OK
Back to food….
We went to Kuah Town on our 2nd night and did a LOT of shopping, THEN looked for food – as usual, very hungry, so just went into the first coffee shop we saw – nothing spectacular – they tried to get us to order their most expensive dishes.
The lighthouse is a great, cosy place for a meal. Its just farther up Pantai Cenang, tucked away in a corner.
The 2nd last place we went to eat at was at Sandy Beach (talked about this place in my previous post).
This was just before we had to go to the airport.
On the way to the airport from Pantai Cenang, Allan just HAD to stop at this cendul stall. In fact, we passed it and he made a U-turn……yeah, THAT desperate. Why? He saw quite a lot of people there and figured that the cendul must be good……
IT WASN”T
I don’t know why everybody else went to eat there – this must be one of the worst cenduls I’ve ever eaten, plus……there were huge lumps of cow dung just around the area!!!
