Gold Coast Day 5 : Big Dad’s Pies, Sand Gates, Mt Coot-tha

29 03 2009

Big Dad’s Pies are a big thing for Allan and Andrew and I found out why later

We actually went looking for bicycle parts, lights, to be more precise but the Big Dad’s signage stopped us in our tracks

They cost from AUD4+ and a bit more if you add stuff on top like the mashed peas we had

Such a difficult decision to make, choosing pies

Our peas topping on the beef meat pie – add another AUD0.70

SAND GATES

The search for the lights brought us to this place called sand gates and we didn’t know what a beautiful place we found until one signboard led us to the beach. It was a brown tourist signboard that said Moreton Bay, so we decided to explore

Along the way were typical “Queenslander” houses – not very different from our Malay houses on stilts – yeah, the houses were built on stilts, only, now a lot of them had added basements underneath the house

Came across this beautiful church building

The quiet and peaceful beach – we asked and were told that they aren’t any motels or B&B’s here, so I guess this is really very much a local place.  We noticed a lot of retirees

The birds were having a good time too, they certainly were not afraid of us

This place is just across the road from the beach, you  wouldn’t miss it

This platter is meant for 2!!

We joined Grace and her colleagues for dinner at Hotel Mounier for dinner that night

The last place for the day was Mount Coot-tha.  I’d strongly recommend coming here for dinner – rates are pretty much the same as any other place – say about AUD15-17 for pasta and a bit more for a steak.  The view is gorgeous and air is cool.
