To Paris on the Eurostar and Lourve part 1

12 09 2009

Buying Eurostar tickets online way in advance is one good way to save some money. If you are as mad as us, consider taking the 5.25am train which gives you a good rate even if you buy the tickets later. After purchasing the tickets online, you need to make sure to bring the SAME CREDIT CARD that you used for the purchase as you will need it to get your tickets at the St Pancras International Station. Just go to the vending machines outside the ticket office and insert your credit card in. The ticket will then be issued by the machine. We paid 59 Euros for both of us for a one way ticket and 89 euros for the return.

The Eurostar is very comfortable and when you book the tickets, you are allowed to select the seats.

Why do I take pictures of the toilet and showers? I don’t know, skip this section if you don’t want to see it.

The two round thingies on the floor are switches, one for flushing the toilet and the other to turn on the tap.

One male I know with a degree from a well known university told me that the taps were not working and I had to tell him that the controls are on the floor :p

Is it true that guys CANNOT find stuff???

P1040852

P1040853

Its fully equipped even with a hand dryer 🙂

P1040854

Of course, with such a high tech toilet, they need to have a quick chat with us about using it :p

P1040855

P1040864

Arrived in Paris safely

P1040869

Our train was called the Da Vincci Code

P1040870

Gard Du Nord (Gard means station and Nord means North in French)

Arriving in Paris from UK is like going into Singapore from KL – everything is charged – better use the loo on the train before arriving at the station – a pee would set you back RM5 !!!!!!! We just refused to pee, hee hee hee

P1040873

Beware that they are almost no escalators or lifts in the Paris Metro – guess that’s why we don’t see fat French people?

Morale of the story – TRAVEL LIGHT!!!

P1040875

On the metro – Allan probably upset about heaving our bags up and down the stairs :O

Oh, we bought the PARIS VISITE card for 3 days – its unlimited travel on the Metro or bus, but no museums included. If you plan to visit the museum and the Notre Dame, buy the Museum Pass which allows entry into a lot of museums

Our station

THE LOURVE

Its one fantastic place that we didn’t mind paying to get in (9 euros per head) – plenty of the most famous artists have their works inside

P1040880

The outside is not any less impressive – it is HUGE!

P1040881

One of the inside squares

P1040883

There is a pyramid built in the centre of the outside square. This serves as the entrance and exit to the Lourve

P1040888

I’m putting this on record as the day that I’ve seen the most naked males in one day.

P1040889

P1040890

Having fun 🙂

P1040891

This was one of the main attractions  – The Mona Lisa

P1040893

Can’t remember the name of this sculpture, but its famous

P1040894

The artists of those days were really really detailed in their work – I have a new respect for all artists

P1040895

P1040900

So many rooms and so many works of art – we could not have finished in 2 days

P1040901

P1040902

Finally, the Mona Lisa – she was kept far away from all.

P1040907

P1040909

Zoomed in for a pic 🙂

P1040910

Look at the intricate details on the ceilings – its like this through most of the Lourve (except for the new wings)

P1040915

Besides naked men, there were pretty girls too

P1040918

I think this is Napoleon – art connoisseurs, don’t hang me if it isn’t

P1040920

P1040921

A lot of the pieces at the Lourve are enormous.

P1040923

Napoleon again – this pic was in my history book back in my secondary school days

P1040924

More fantastic ceilings

P1040926

Venus de Milo from afar

P1040937

The lady herself

P1040939

Found out that the Lourve was built over another castle

P1040948

P1040953

Told Allan that this is a GREAT looking butt :p

P1040960

I had time to people watch too ……..
